Top 5 places to go

Okay so you want to go on a vacation this year and there are plenty of places to see here in the United States that doesn't require a visa or a passport. The top 5 places to go on vacation apparently this year are New York City, The Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, Nevada, San Francisco and of course Orlando Florida home of Disney World. So here is a lttle information on each city as well as some links that you may enjoy as well.

Disney World in Orlando Florida

Walt Disney World Resort is the largest and most visited recreational resort in the world, containing four theme parks, two water parks, 24 themed hotels, and numerous shopping, dining, entertainment and recreation venues. Owned and operated by the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts segment of The Walt Disney Company, it is located southwest of Orlando, Florida. The property is often abbreviated Walt Disney World, Disney World or WDW.

It opened on October 1, 1971, with the Magic Kingdom theme park, and has since added Epcot (on October 1, 1982), Disney's Hollywood Studios (on May 1, 1989), and Disney's Animal Kingdom (on April 22, 1998).

Orlando has the second largest number of hotel rooms in the country (after Las Vegas, Nevada), and is one of the busiest American cities for conferences and conventions with the Orange County Convention Center, the country's second largest in square footage. It is also known for its wide array of golf courses, with numerous courses available for any level of golfer.

San Francisco

Tourism is the backbone of the San Francisco economy. Its frequent portrayal in music, film, and popular culture has made the city and its landmarks recognizable worldwide. It is the city where Tony Bennett "left his heart," where the Birdman of Alcatraz spent many of his final years, and where Rice-a-Roni was said to be the favorite treat. San Francisco attracts the third-highest number of foreign tourists of any city in the U.S. and claims Pier 39 near Fisherman's Wharf as the third-most popular tourist attraction in the nation. More than 16 million visitors arrived in San Francisco in 2007, injecting nearly $8.2 billion into the economy-both all-time high figures for the city. With a large hotel infrastructure and a world-class convention facility in the Moscone Center, San Francisco is also among the top-ten North American destinations for conventions and conferences.

Grand Canyon in Arizona

Aside from casual sightseeing from the South Rim (averaging 7000 feet (2100 m) above sea level), whitewater rafting, hiking, running and helicopter tours are especially popular. In October 2010 the North Rim is the host to an ultramarathon. The Grand Canyon Ultra Marathon is a 126km race over 24 hours. The floor of the valley is accessible by foot, muleback, or by boat or raft from upriver. Hiking down to the river and back up to the rim in one day is discouraged by park officials because of the distance, steep and rocky trails, change in elevation, and danger of heat exhaustion from the much higher temperatures at the bottom. Rescues are required annually of unsuccessful rim-to-river-to-rim travelers. Nevertheless, hundreds of fit and experienced hikers complete the trip every year.

Las Vegas Nevada

The major attractions in Las Vegas are the casinos. The most famous hotel casinos are located on Las Vegas Boulevard on the portion of that road known as the Las Vegas Strip. These larger casinos are located outside of the city. Many of these hotels are massive, providing thousands of rooms, with their large adjoining casino areas. There are many hotel casinos in the city's downtown area as well, which was the focal point of the city's gaming industry in its early days. Several large hotels and casinos are also located somewhat off the Strip, as well as in the county around the city. As of 2009, total number of hotel rooms in Las Vegas was over 140,000.

New York City

Times Square has been dubbed "The Crossroads of the World. Tourism is important to New York City, with about 47 million foreign and American tourists visiting each year. Major destinations include the Empire State Building, Ellis Island, Broadway theatre productions, museums such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and other tourist attractions including Central Park, Washington Square Park, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, the Bronx Zoo, New York Botanical Garden, luxury shopping along Fifth and Madison Avenues, and events such as the Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village, the Tribeca Film Festival, and free performances in Central Park at Summerstage. The Statue of Liberty is a major tourist attraction and one of the most recognizable icons of the United States. Many of the city's ethnic enclaves, such as Jackson Heights, Flushing, and Brighton Beach are major shopping destinations for first and second generation Americans up and down the East Coast.

Of the places mentioned the Grand Canyon would be for me. I don't care much for cities. Yellowstone national park would also have to be worth checking out. I believe it is the oldest national part in the USA. Meanwhile the Grand Canyon would be great for fossil hunting.

Rod I agree the Grand Canyon was awesome when I visited there. It is so majestic looking out from the canyon and it seems to go on forever. Thanks for reading.

All great places and sadly I have never been to any of them. Well, I visited Oakland for a concerto but did not venture across the bay into San Fransicso.

I have been to Disneyland in Anaheim, not to DisneyWorld yet in Orlando, Florida, will definitely make a trip one day. Have been to Las Vegas several times, and on each trip, there is a "wow" factor all the time, for me. Also been to San Francisco several times - do like the weather, when it is not too gloomy. Ok, 2 out of 5 is not too bad, considering I do not reside in the US. :) Thanks for the Hub!
